Do You Actually Need a Wedding Planner? An Honest Answer
Most couples don’t come to us because they can’t plan a wedding. They come to us because they’re already planning forty other things.
You’re working. You’re answering emails on the train. You’re trying to remember whether the caterer needed final numbers this week or next. Planning a wedding on top of a full life isn’t hard because the decisions are complicated — it’s hard because there are hundreds of them, and they all land on the same two people.
So here’s the honest answer to “do we need a planner?”: not everyone does. But if any of the following sounds like you, it’s worth a conversation.
You’re time-poor, not idea-poor. You know the feel you want. You just don’t have twelve spare hours a week to chase quotes, compare three florists and read the fine print on a venue contract. This is the most common reason couples call us, and it’s a good one.
You want to be a guest at your own wedding. There’s a version of the day where you’re checking your phone, watching the door for the cake, wondering if the celebrant has arrived. And there’s a version where your phone stays in your bag. The difference is usually someone standing quietly in the background running the timeline so you don’t have to.
The two of you are carrying it unevenly. When one person becomes the project manager of the whole wedding, it can sour the lead-up. Handing the logistics to someone outside the relationship often gives you both the day back.
You’re planning regional or from a distance. A wedding in the Yarra Valley, the Macedon Ranges or on a private property comes with moving parts a city venue handles for you — power, wet-weather plans, where suppliers park, who locks up. We do this every season.
What we actually do depends on how much you want to hand over. Some couples want us from the first venue search right through to the last song — that’s full planning. Others have it mostly sorted and want us to take the reins in the final weeks and run the day itself. And some just want a few hours of guidance to get unstuck. There’s no single right answer.
What stays the same across all of it is the point of hiring us at all: you stop being the one holding everything. We’re a two-person team — Abby and Kristy — and we cap how many weddings we take so the couples we say yes to get our full attention.
Luxury isn’t always how your day looks. It’s how it feels. And how it feels usually comes down to how much you had to carry to get there.
If you’re not sure which level of help fits, that’s exactly what a first conversation is for. Get in touch and we’ll talk it through — no pressure either way.
